My passion is photographing women. I know that with women, the most admirable beauty they have is the one they carry within them. Many women come to me for make overs and I enjoy re-creating their exterior beauty to match their beauty within. With the years of experience in shooting Commercials and exposed to a myriad of Cinematographers, Directors, Stylists and Make Up Artists, I have learned the tricks of my trade in terms of lighting, camera angles, styling and make up. I also use hi-end digital cameras and state-of-the-art post production equipment to create photographic art pieces you can cherish for a lifetime and more.
I began my career in the local TV commercial industry back in 1992. I started out in Axis Films, which was a power packed production house that had won numerous advertising awards in the 90s. Working under top film directors such as Farouk Aljoufry, Paul Loosely, Dain Said and Hoo Ee Kee, I learned the creative process of making great TV commercials. Between 1992 to 2005, with great stress, climbed the production ladder in three creative departments - art direction, wardrobe styling and film directing. Along the way, my art direction skills allowed me to dabble in interior design, so alongside my career in commercial production, I went on to design the interiors of three nights clubs in Bangsar, Penang and as far away as Shen Zhen China.
By 2005, I was ready to face my greatest fears. In this case it meant film directing in a male dominated industry. My career as a film director took off, under my belt I have directed several TV commercials and corporate videos for clients such as Nestle, Petronas, Boh, Ministry of Agriculture, Friskies, Panasonic but to name a few. I was amongst a handful of successful female films directors and was already making my mark in the local TV commercial industry when I decided to give it all up to chase my secret desire of being a photographer. I had a life changing experience whilst shooting a corporate video in Sudan and it brought on my passion to capture memorable images using my own eye behind the camera so within months after that experience, Sammy Khoo Photography was born.
